A Day in the Life of - Sarah Furze, Head of Relationship Management

What does a typical working day look like for you?

My role is to work closely with nine Invoice Finance Relationship Managers who are responsible for a combined 450 SME clients across the South. My typical day therefore includes supporting team members to best service the client-base, overseeing client portfolios and assisting with any challenges that may arise. All of this also means I’m constantly supporting team members to ensure they’re achieving their personal development goals and hitting KPIs.

Another key part of my job is attending and sometimes leading project work and business changes – from product development to the introduction of new systems or processes internally. All of this means most of my time is spent in the office, although maybe two or three times a month I’ll be attending project or client meetings alongside other members of the team.

What do you like most about your job?

It may sound clichéd, but I love that no two days are the same. I can come into the office with a clear plan in place but the day will take me in an entirely different direction. It also guarantees that I’m always learning – I’ve been in the industry for 13 years and not a day has passed where I’ve not learned something new.

Working at Ultimate Finance is also hugely rewarding. Firstly, the learning culture here means I’m working with Relationship Managers that are developing every day and when colleagues join the team at a junior level and work their way up the ladder, it’s a delight to see. Similarly, there’s nothing quite like offering SMEs the support they need to turn their luck around. Some clients contact us at times of serious difficulties and seeing how the financial support we offer helps them to survive and thrive gives me and the rest of the team amazing pride.

What does good funding mean to you?

For me, good funding is all about being fair, open and honest with clients about the type of financial support they need and how we can help. Far too often, lenders aren’t transparent with their clients, but I take pride in managing a team that ensures SMEs are offered the best solution for them. Constant communication is also key and the team are in regular contact with clients to make sure they have everything they need. In short, good funding is all about offering the best service possible to our clients from start to finish, and I’m proud to be part of a team that delivers exactly that.
